PETALING JAYA: Leaders from the National Union of the
Teaching Profession (NUTP) have met with the Education Ministry over grievances
brought up during its recent conference.
NUTP secretary-general Lok Yim Pheng said Education
director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom met the leaders last week.
“We thank the director-general for the quick move to
settle our problems,” she said in a statement.
Lok said NUTP leaders would be given more opportunities
to discuss the problems during an upcoming meeting with state education
directors.
She said Alimuddin would also have a meeting with the
NUTP exco next month.
Lok had earlier said that teachers wanted a meeting with
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is the Education Minister,
over grievances such as irrelevant work, transfer of senior teachers to rural
schools and being forced to return to school on weekends.
She
said this was important as the profession had been dogged by several matters
which could have been resolved long ago.
