True to the “People First, Performance Now” slogan, the Government
has introduced MyID initiative, where the identity card number is used
as the sole reference number for Malaysian citizens in their individual
capacity when dealing with Government agencies.
This initiative
was officially launched by the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin
Yassin on January 18, 2010.
The main objective of this initiative
is to provide convenience to the citizens.
Citizens no longer
need to memorise various reference numbers generated by the agencies for
the different services.
With this initiative, they only need to
remember one number – their identity card number.

Transactions with government agencies is much easier, hassle free
and faster.
Besides expediting service delivery and reducing
queues at the counters, it would also eliminate problems arising from
lost or misplaced documents. This initiative involves all Government
agencies at both federal and state levels that provide services for
citizens as an individual.
For those agencies involved, they must
ensure that all existing service delivery channels such as counters,
kiosks, online services and telephones, support this initiative.
To
address the concern of the public regarding the security aspects,
Government agencies are instructed to do the necessary second level
verification to verify the individual’s identity before any confidential
information can be released or accessed.
Currently, a total of
1029 services are already using the identity card number as the sole
reference number.
