MALACCA: The Human Resources Ministry will revamp its vocational
skills training programmes to cater to the needs of new and emerging
industries.
Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said the changes
were necessary because investors had complained that the present
workforce was unable to meet the demands of industries.
“Investors
have complained that the workforce produced by the education system is
unable to fulfill the needs of the industries,” he told reporters after
meeting Tamil school teachers in Bukit Katil here yesterday.
The
Government would ensure that the programmes were in line with the
aspirations of the New Economic Model to be announced by Prime Minister
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak soon, Subramaniam said.
The Education Ministry would make the necessary changes in the skills training programmes to develop human capital, he added.
Dr
Subramaniam also said that the ministry was looking at ways to reduce
the gender ratio imbalance in higher education institutions as well as
in the private and public sector.
The ratio of females and males in institutions of higher learning is 70:30 while in the workforce, it is 60:40.
