Civil servants asked to improve efficiency

KUCHING: Civil servants, especially in federal departments and agencies in Sarawak, need to improve their efficiency and governance practices to meet National Key Results Area (NKRA) targets, said Sarawak Federal Secretary, Md Yahaya Basimin.
He said they need to take some initiatives, including in implementing the government's main objectives at a faster speed.

"If certain regulations need to be reviewed, the related department or agency should see that it is done after taking into consideration the views from other agencies," he said at the Sarawak federal agencies' monthly assembly here today.

He said the best example in taking fast action was the implementation and the setting up of the 1Malaysia Clinic, which, without too much cost, had given a major impact in creating harmony among the people.

Md Yahaya also urged all the departments and agencies to be thrifty and reduce their expenditures.

"Stop whining about insufficient budget, use your wisdom to distribute the allocations wisely according to the level of priority," he said, referring to the global economic uncertainty which has affected most countries, including Malaysia. - Bernama
